Middle school learners compared and contrasted two middle school summer reading books in a brand new way. In Spanish, middle schoolers used the Thinking Routine 3-2-1 Bridge to connect The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie and La lección de August by R.J. Palacio. For each novel, students were asked to identify 3 main life events for the main character, ask 2 clarifying questions, and record the 1 big lesson they learned from each story. Finally, they "bridged" the two novels by drawing connections between them.
